Communication and public presentation of the project

Workshops

During phase I two major workshops were organised with participants from all involved institutions (HU, Bonn University, AIT, KU).

- Workshop Hannover 28.-31.10.2001
The first workshop helped to establish contacts and cooperation between scientists from Hannover and Bonn with colleagues from AIT and KU (see attached copy of the program). First the German project leaders presented their projects within the research group (FG), followed by presentations of the Thai counterparts on their ideas for additional projects. In summary the workshop enabled us to closely coordinate and fine-tune research activities among all partners in the FG.

- Workshop Bangkok 27.-30.10.2003
During the second workshop the progress of the project was presented to officials. Moreover, intensive discussions and brainstorming among project members on research progress so far largely helped in the preparation of the phase II proposal(s). Thus the meeting was organised in three consecutive sections: (1) presentation of the conceptual framework of the project and visit of the GH and lab complex at AIT, (2) presentation and discussion of results of the ongoing research projects, and (3) development of ideas and concepts for the envisaged phase II of the FG.

Project meetings in Hannover and Bangkok

Project leaders and co-workers regularly meet either in Hannover or at AIT/KU in Bangkok to discuss problems and progress. In Hannover meetings are organised on a 4-weeks basis, whereas project members in Bangkok meet weekly. In the latter, among others, organisational problems are continuously addressed. Moreover, these meetings help fine-tuning ongoing and planned CEs.

Public relation activities

Presence in the public media can contribute via increased public interest to the success of the project. For instance two longer articles in the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung (the article as jpg-file) and the (English-language) Bangkok Post (the article as jpg-file) created great public interest in Germany and Thailand. Moreover, the gh complex at AIT was visited from several groups of international and Thai scientists. Finally, the King of Sweden, and her royal highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Princess of Thailand, visited our project at AIT (see pictures below).
All guests participated in poster presentations of the individual sub-projects and were introduced to the concept of the CEs.
