Harmanto received a B.Sc. (Agricultural Engineering) from Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia in 1992. In August 2002, he obtained a M. Eng. degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand. He previously worked in the Centre for Development of Agricultural Mechanization (CDAM), a national research institute in Indonesia, from 1993 to 2001 in the area of pre-harvest production and greenhouse research activities. His duty station is the AIT campus in Bangkok.
